We all know that nowadays everything is about security so we decided that we want to give an easy way to our users to enable SSL for their custom domains on SashiDo. That’s why we integrated let’s encrypt in our platform. Let’s encrypt is a free, automated an open certificate authority. Their certificates are standard domain validation ones and can be used by websites to enable secure HTTPS connections. You can an SSL on your website in literally just a click. So let’s see how it’s done!
The first thing you need to do is point your custom domain name to the server address specified right here- you’ll see it in your own dashboard. All you need to do is log in to your domain registrar’s account, add a cname record pointing to the server address. Once you’re done with this you’ll login to your SashiDo dashboard, you’ll go right here and you’ll add the custom domain name.
Enable Free SSL
Last but not least you’ll enable the free SSL. I have a domain name which is currently pointing to the server. This is the domain that I have. I haven’t added it to the dashboard yet and that’s why when I open it in the browser I see the message saying that the application is not available. At the same time when I try to access the domain name by HTTPS I see that the connection is not set up yet so once I add my domain name in the dashboard when I open this link right here I should be able to see the default message I have set up.
Let’s go to our github repo, in the public folder- this is the place where static files are stored and check our index.html file. As you can see I have a default message “Hello from SashiDo Video Series” so once I add the domain name in SashiDo’s dashboard right here I should be able to see the message. Let’s check if it will happen. I’ll go back to the dashboard and will just add the domain name right here. All I need to do is add it and click on Save Changes. That’s it! Let’s refresh the page and see if we are able to see the default welcome message 🙂 And here it is!
So it’s time to enable our free let’s encrypt SSL. All we need to do is click on the tick right here and again click on Save Changes. The system will need just a couple of seconds to process this information. We can as well just refresh the HTTPS page right here and see if we are all set up and here it is – we have successfully enabled SSL for our custom domain name with the SashiDo. As you can see it was super easy and straightforward to do it. The let’s encrypt SSL by the way is valid for 90 days.
